I am a certified K-12 art teacher in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and awaiting certificaiton in Massachusetts.  I currently work for The Learning Center for Deaf as a classroom aide in the Functional Academics Program.  I work one-on-one with Deaf/Hard of Hearing Students who have severe physical and emotional difficulties or non-normative cognitive abilities.  My work is intended to help them gain further funcitonal life and academic skills to insure them an independant adult lifestyle after high school graduation.

Classroom aide to the Functional Academics Program. Students in this program  are challenged by severe social and emotional difficulties, resulting from childhood trauma, mental illness, and/or organic dysfunctions. All are Deaf, and have significant needs that are addressed in addition to helping them gain academic skills that will result in their graduation and the successful navigation of a more independant home life after graduation..

 

 

Youth Arts Teacher: Charter Oak Cultural Center

September 2009 - August 2012
 

Developed and implemented a Deaf Culture/American Sign Language and Visual Arts (De’VIA) art program, and three other visual art curricula for inner city elementary school students enrolled in the Charter Oak Youth Arts Institute.

 

Elementary Art Teacher: The American School for the Deaf
West Hartford, CT 
September 2007 - August 2008

 

Hired as a full-time Art Teacher for the Elementary School.  Jobs included restructuring and teaching the Elementary Art Classes for PreK through grade five.  Responsibilities included rewriting the Elementary Art Curriculum to adhere to State and National Standards, including curiculum appropriate for DSN (Deaf Special Needs) and severe special needs (PACES, Life Skills).  Daily implementation of art classes for all levels, including IEP/BEP/PPT, reporting, post evaluation of studetns and student projects.  Committee person for the Marie Philips Deaf Art, Poetry, and Storytelling Competition and implemented the art portion with interested studetns. On the Committe dedicated to connecting with the National Theater of the Deaf and the Little Theater of the Deaf, and began an innovative theater and ASL storytelling program in the Elementary and High Schools.
